We believe that both health and disease are functions of physical, emotional, nutritional, and spiritual influences.  Excellent diagnostic skills and testing are used to identify risk factors and disease. Both modern medicine and holistic therapeutic approaches are used to promote healing and vitality.

Remedy Internal Medicine is a membership practice. In addition to billing insurance there is an annual membership fee. This model allows us to remain independent and provide optimal, personalized primary care.

Shannon Kennedy, MD

INTERNAL MEDICINE

Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Dr. Shannon Kennedy is also a diplomat of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine and a member of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine. Dr. Kennedy earned her BS in Biology from Boston College, where she enjoyed New England's culture and beauty. She attended medical school at the University of Nevada, located near the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Warm weather, beautiful beaches, and an outstanding residency program drew her to the Medical University of South Carolina, where she completed residencies in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. She continued practicing pediatrics at MUSC until 2008, then transitioned to Hospital-based Internal Medicine and later to outpatient Internal Medicine from 2008 to 2012.

In 2012, Remedy Internal Medicine and Wellness Center was founded by Dr. Kennedy as a result of her dedication to healing and preventing disease. The center reflects her holistic approach to medicine, integrating traditional medical practices with innovative wellness strategies to provide comprehensive care for her patients.

Dr. Kennedy is the supervising provider for RemedyInternal MedicinePrimary Care, Ketamine Assisted Therapy, and Remedy-IV. She accepts patients annually through the HER program. 

NURSE PRACTITIONER

Erin Kosak, NP

Our wonderful Nurse Practitioner, Erin Kosak, obtained her bachelor's in Nursing from Western Michigan University, one of the only nursing schools that includes holistic health in their program. She started graduate studies at MUSC, thinking she was going to get her PhD in Nursing research, focused on the benefits of holistic health, before realizing that she would miss patient care too much. In 2018, Erin received her Masters in Nursing from Walden University specializing in Adult and Geriatric Primary Care. She has trained in hormones and functional medicine through the Academy of Health for Antiaging as well as The Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine. Erin started day one as a Nurse Practitioner here at Remedy Internal Medicine, receiving years of hands-on training with Dr. Kennedy and Dr. Sherri. She now has a thriving practice of primary care patients who love her!

NURSE PRACTITIONER

Misti Borgestad, FNP, CNM

Misti Borgestad, FNP, CNM, is an experienced Nurse Practitioner who has recently joined the Remedy Internal Medicine and Wellness team. She has a passion for holistic health care and enjoys providing compassionate and empowering care to her patients. She received her BA in Nursing from St. Olaf College in Minnesota. For 17 years, she practiced as an RN in a variety of hospital settings and then decided to go back to school to become an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. In 2010, she received her Master’s in Nursing from Florida State University specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She spent 10 years working in Family Medicine and Acute Care clinics in Iowa, and in 2020 she graduated with a Post Graduate Certificate in Nurse Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University. In addition to her Family Medicine experience, she has spent 4 years working as a Certified Nurse Midwife at Birth Centers in California, Minnesota, and South Carolina.

Misti and her husband have 3 sons, 3 daughters-in-law, and 2 grandchildren who have all stolen her heart. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, going on coffee dates, running, E-biking, walking the beach, and spending time with friends and family. She feels honored and thankful for the opportunity to serve others on their journey toward health.
